Bear With Us!

Post by Lara

1 June 2013

Hello World!

It's been too long since our last post and for that we apologize.  Between traveling and internet service being spotty at all the times we want to use it, it's become difficult to keep posting regularly like we have always tried to.  Things are going to get even more busy here soon, because we've got all of this going on in the next few months:

  • Term 3 is winding down which means writing and proctoring exams and reporting grades, which have to be hand-written once they're calculated.
  • We're desperately trying to get a garden planted before it's too late, which it may be already.  If not, then we have watermelons and tomatoes to look forward to in the coming year.
  • New PCTs (Peace Corps Trainees) arrive in Salone on June 19th (we are SO excited to meet you all!) and with that begins 10 weeks of training, of which we will be involved with at least 2 weeks.
  • Kevin's mom, dad, and sister Cheryl are arriving for a 2 week visit in July.
  • After a bit of a quiet month in August, we're planning to travel to Ohio for a week in September to go to Lara's brother's wedding.  When we get back school will be in session already!

Anyway that's going on with us-- we will do our best to keep updating and posting photos as we can, since we also have a lot to tell you about! Lookie here:

  • Our cat had kittens last week. Photos coming soon.
  • Our 2 hens have each laid a clutch of eggs that should be hatching soon, so our 6 chickens hopefully will at least double.
  • We've painted our parlour and are painting a mural on our back verandah soon and will include photos once those are finishing up.
  • Next Saturday marks a year since we arrived in Salone, so we hope to publish a little celebratory post in honor of our anniversary here.
To all our friends and family at home, we cannot thank you enough for the incredible amount of support you've given us in the past year.  We know the distance is difficult, but you've done so much to keep us in the loop, send us comforting things from home, and shrink that distance a bit with all your updates and messages.  In some ways we can't believe we've only got a year left in our service, but at the same time we are incredibly excited to come home in 2014 and start a new chapter.  So thanks for all you've done so far, and please continue to bear with us as we move forward.

Love,

Lara and Kevin
